Workshops
The Black Sheep Weavers Fiber Guild offers an array of workshops throughout the year to enhance your fiber art skills.  Details about each workshop are listed below.
 To Register:
You may register for any workshop at monthly Guild meetings.  To register you must fill out a form for each workshop and attach check.  Please date check 3 days before workshop date.  Registration is first come, first serve.  You are not registered until the workshop coordinator has your registration form and payment in hand.  Registration forms will be available at the meeting and downloadable from the website.  If you are unable to attend the meeting and wish to register, please mail your registration form and check to Annette Shaffer, 6435 Spaulding Road, Howell, MI 48855.  If you are interested in a class, please register before the deadline to avoid class cancellations
 Workshop Policy:

  • If workshop minimum size is not met, your check will be returned.
  • If workshop is not filled four weeks before workshop date, the workshop will be opened to non-Guild members with a $10 non guild member fee added to workshop fee.
  • A waiting list will be maintained if the workshop fills. 
  • Should you need to cancel your registration and your spot can be filled, you will receive a full refund.  Other situations will be handled in a reasonable manner on a case by case basis.


2018 Workshop Schedule 


​​On the Surface! with Carol Riffe

     In this 6-hour workshop you will learn many surface design techniques to make your fabric look like you want it to..

perfect for landscapes, portraits and art quilts. You will learn to change color, texture and how to thread paint and add

special effects. You will create a notebook of samples during the workshop, illustrated by Carol's trunk show of quilts.

We will explore framing techniques so that you can present your art. SUPPLIES needed: Sewing machine (optional);

a darning foot or free-motion foot, bobbins, power cord etc; scissors, apron and wear old clothes.

Tie-Dyeing-REVISITED with Nadine Cloutier

     This is not the same tie dyeing technique done in the 1960s-70s. We will be using men's 100% silk ties.

After we cut them up we will create an artistic mosaic design. This only works with a silk scarf,

a dye transfer technique and heat. SUPPLIES needed: pair of sharp scissors and a plastic tub-shoebox size.

Class fee includes one 11" x 60" silk scarf.

Free Motion Lace Stitched Bowls with Cindy Geist

Practice your free motion quilting while learning to make a lace bowl. By sewing on water soluble fabric,

you are able to create your own lace. Use this new fabric to create bowls, scarves, shawls and more. We

will create our fabric, wash it out and form our bowl.

SUPPLIES NEEDED: 1 yard of Solvy-water soluble stabilizer (looks like a plastic bag), assorted threads,

yarns, sheer snippets, metallic threads, sewing machine in good working order, darning foot (if you plan on

free motion quilting, assorted sewing machine thread and bobbins, white school glue and glass or metal bowl

to form your lace bowl on
