The Black Sheep Weavers Fiber Guild offers an array of workshops throughout the year to enhance your fiber art skills. Details about each workshop are listed below.
You may register for any workshop at monthly Guild meetings. To register you must fill out a form for each workshop and attach check. Please date check 3 days before workshop date. Registration is first come, first serve. You are not registered until the workshop coordinator has your registration form and payment in hand. Registration forms will be available at the meeting and downloadable from the website. If you are unable to attend the meeting and wish to register, please mail your registration form and check to Annette Shaffer, 6435 Spaulding Road, Howell, MI 48855. If you are interested in a class, please register before the deadline to avoid class cancellations
2017-18 Workshop Schedule
Felted Zipper Pin with Kathy Stahl
Creating zipper pins involves several fun and creative steps. The first is to decide on a design. Second, we create
the outline with the zipper teeth. Then it is time to fill in the outline with roving that is needle-felted in place. On top
of that add beading and/or decorative embroidery. Lastly, a backing and pin are added. SUPPLIES needed: Zippers-
teeth metal or plastic can be used, prefer gold or silver metal. The fabric that the teeth are attached to can be any color,
but will show a bit in the final design. Needle and thread the match zipper color; black felt twice the size of your design;
roving colors of your choice (Connie Hydel will have small pkgs for sale); a felting needle, foam to felt on; embroidery
thread and beads.

On the Surface! with Carol Riffe
In this 6-hour workshop you will learn many surface design techniques to make your fabric look like you want it to..
perfect for landscapes, portraits and art quilts. You will learn to change color, texture and how to thread paint and add
special effects. You will create a notebook of samples during the workshop, illustrated by Carol's trunk show of quilts.
We will explore framing techniques so that you can present your art. SUPPLIES needed: Sewing machine (optional);
a darning foot or free-motion foot, bobbins, power cord etc. ; scissors, apron and wear old clothes.

Tie-Dyeing-REVISITED with Nadine Cloutier
This is not the same tie dyeing technique done in the 1960s-70s. We will be using men's 100% silk ties. After we cut
them up we will create an artistic mosaic design. This only works with a silk scarf, a dye transfer technique and heat.
SUPPLIES needed: pair of sharp scissors and a plastic tub-shoebox size. Class fee includes one 11" x 60" silk scarf.
